Medical Surgical I Unit
The
Medical Surgical I Unit is located on the first floor on
the southwest side of the hospital. The unit consists
of 24 private rooms, a staff break room, dietary
kitchen, medication room (containing pyxis machines for
medication control and IV supply control), supply room
with pyxis, a clean linen closet, a soiled / dirty
utility closet and a nurse’s station. The unit has the
capability of housing telemetry patients who are
monitored in the Intensive Care Unit. The Medical
Surgical I and II share a manager. The unit manager has
24 hour per day responsibility for the units. The
units are staffed by registered nurses, licensed
practical nurses, nursing assistants, and orderlies who
work a variety of shifts. A ward secretary is available
on the first and second shifts. The unit manager
directs the care of all caregivers. Staff mix is based
upon the census on the unit and the level of care
required by the patients on the unit.
Med-Surg II Unit
Med-Surg II is located on 2nd floor. The
unit consists of 18 private rooms, 4 of which is
designated as a Pediatric Unit, 1 of these rooms is a
negative pressure room with a anteroom that contains
isolation supplies, 5 as Orthopeadic beds, and the
remaining 9 as MedSurg beds, staff break room, dietary
kitchen, medication room with pyxis machine for
medication control, supply room with pyxis, a clean
linen closet, a soiled/dirty utility room, a nurse’s
station, a Physical Therapy room, Pediatric playroom,
and a conference room. The MedSurg II Unit also has the
capability of housing telemetry patients, who are being
monitored by the Intensive Care Unit.
The Pediatric Unit
The Pediatric Unit is now included on the Medical
Surgical II unit on second floor and shares the
facilities and supplies of Med / Surg II. Every effort
is made to place pediatric patients in rooms 226 – 229.
The Medical Surgical / Pediatric Unit Manager has 24
hour per day responsibility for these units. The unit
is staffed by registered nurses, licensed practical
nurses, nursing assistants, and orderlies that work a
variety of shifts. A ward secretary is available on
first and second shifts. The Unit Manager directs the
care of all caregivers. Staff mix is based upon the
census on the unit and the level of care required by the
patients on the unit.
The Orthopaedic Unit
The Orthopaedic Unit is included on the MedSurg II Unit
on the second floor, and shares the supplies of MedSurg
II. Every effort is made to place Orthopeadic patients
in rooms 219-225. There is a physical therapy room (room
# 220 & 221).The MedSurg Manager has 24hour
responsibility for this unit, and directs the care of
all caregivers. The unit is staffed by registered
nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants,
and a ward secretary.
The Emergency Unit
The Emergency Department is located on the North side of
the hospital with easy access to the Emergency entrance
off Church Street. Emanuel Medical Center (EMC)
maintains the category of Level III Emergency
Department. Services are offered 24 hours per day, 7
days a week. The patients we serve span the life cycle
from precipitously delivered newborns to death. All
patients are triaged by a Registered Nurse who has
completed a competency test and the ENA approved triage
course is made available to all RN’s. The emergency
department consists of 1 Triage room and 8 treatment
rooms with a total of nine (9) beds. There is a
medication room, containing a pyxis machine for
medication control. A clean work room and a soiled
utility room are present. The Emergency Department
manger has a 24 hour / 7 day a week responsibility for
the unit. The emergency department is staffed with a
physician, Registered Nurses / LPN’s, ER
Clerk/Technician and Emergency Services are available to
all age groups. Emanuel County EMS is housed in the
hospital. Three helicopter services are within 35 - 40
minutes air travel (Air Med and Life Net will transport
to the Augusta area, and Life Star will transport to the
Savannah area).
The Intensive Care Unit
The Intensive care unit is located on the west sing of
the hospital on the first floor adjacent to the Med /
Surg I. Emanuel Medical Intensive Care Unit consists of
8 hardwired beds. We have 6 Telemetry units that may be
maintained on patients on any inpatient unit in the
facility, and are monitored in the intensive care unit.
There is a clean supply room and a soiled utility room.
The Intensive Care Unit manager has 24 hour / day
operational responsibility for the unit. The
Intensive Care Unit is staffed with skill mix of RN’s,
LPN’s and TECH’s. The Intensive Care Unit is
available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are an
adult / geriatric / pediatric ICU with capabilities to
do some hemodynamic monitoring (a-lines and CVP),
ventilator management and the monitoring of thrombolytic
therapy.
The Obstrectical / Gynelogical (OB / GYN) and Nursery
Unit
The OB / GYN / Nursery departments are located on the
second floor of the hospital adjacent to the surgical
suites. Emanuel Medical OB / Nursery department consists
of 3 labor, delivery, recovery, post-partum (LDRP)
rooms, 8 OB / GYN rooms and a Nursery with a 10 crib
capacity. There is a clean supply room and a soiled
utility room. The OB / Nursery Unit manager has 24 hour
a day operational responsibility for the unit. The OB /
Nursery Unit is staffed with a mix of 2 RN’s or 1 RN & 1
LPN per shift. The OB / GYB Nursery department is
available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. There is a
physician on 24 hour call by members of the departments
of OB / GYN, Family practice, Surgery, Pediatrics,
Anesthesiology and Emergency care. The departments
provide services to obstetrical and newborn patients
from (1) 20 weeks gestation to onset of labor (ante
partum and prenatal care), (2) less than 20 weeks
gestation with a diagnosis of miscarriage or ectopic
pregnancy, (3) during labor and delivery (Intrapartum
care), (4) for an extended period after delivery
(postpartum), and (5) neonatal patients including term
and preterm newborns excluding care and services
required in a Level III Nursery. The OB / GYN
department also provides services to non-infectious
gynecological patients. Services also include
non-infectious medical surgical patients as overflow for
the Med / Surg unit.
The Surgical Unit
Surgical Services include the Preoperative/ambulatory
area, Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit,
Endoscopy and Central Services. Surgical care is
provided on a scheduled basis Monday through Friday with
surgical anesthesia and nursing coverage for emergency
procedures provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The
population consists of pediatric, adolescent, adult and
geriatric patients. The Operating Room provides care
for patients requiring surgical intervention for the
purpose of diagnosis, treatment of elective procedures,
or emergency care of the acutely ill patient. The
Operating Room provides the following services:
Orthopedics, OB/GYN, ENT, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Oral
and General. The anesthesia administered may be local,
local with sedation, local with anesthesia standby,
regional and or general anesthesia. The staff consists
of a mix of RN's, LPN'S, Surgical Technicians. |
